Dr Tim’s Top Tips for Great Teeth!
Did you know that oral health plays an important part in overall health and wellbeing?
Keeping your teeth and gums healthy is vital and can reduce the risk of health problems that can start in the mouth.
The longevity of cosmetic dentistry is also dependant on how well you look after your teeth. If you have spent the time and money to enjoy a brighter smile, chances are you want to keep that smile for life.
Here’s some top tips to keep your oral health in top shape.
-
Brush your teeth for at least two minutes, twice a day. If you can, use a fluoride toothpaste with anti-bacterial properties. Electric toothbrushes are useful in helping you better clean those difficult to reach parts of your mouth.
-
We recommend flossing every night before brushing to remove trapped food and bacteria that can be leftover even after brushing your teeth.
-
Keep your saliva levels high by staying hydrated. Drinks like alcohol and caffeine will dehydrate your body and reduce your saliva’s protective functions.
-
Food and drink high in sugar and acid content is a leading factor in tooth decay. If you do consume soft drinks, fruit juice or acidic food, remember to rinse your mouth with water afterwards.
-
Smoking can lead to gum disease, dry mouth, bad breath and other oral health problems.
-
Wear a custom-fitting mouthguard to protect your teeth when playing sport or other physical activities.
-
Routine dental visits, roughly every six to twelve months are important for spotting issues and reducing the risk of developing oral health problems.
